American Country Life

PUBLISHER:N. Currier
DATE:1855
SIZE:16 5/8 x 23 7/8
CONDITION:Very Good condition and color*

DESCRIPTION:   Summers evening. Lithograph by Nathaniel Currier after Frances Flora (Fanny) Palmer. Published 1855 by N. Currier, 152 Nassau Street, New York. Offering one from a series depicting country landscapes through the four seasons; the others are May Morning, October Afternoon and Pleasures of Winter. Harry Peters credits Mrs. Palmer with creating the most attractive and decorative Currier and Ives prints (Currier and Ives, I, 136). This scene certainly bears out that opinion, showing a happy family on their obviously prosperous homestead, with its large Victorian house and well-manicured landscape. A fine example of the Currier firm's celebration of idyllic country life. *With 4-inch margins.
