ROSS/ROMANO

April 19- July 13, 2013
Opening Night Reception: Friday, April 19, from 5-8pm.

Our new summer show ROSS/ROMANO will open on April 19 and stay on view until July 13, 2013. The exhibit features the work of John Ross and Clare Romano, internationally known printmakers, teachers, and husband and wife creative duo. Their prints sample architecture, waterways, and canyon vistas- a visual record of their travels to Italy and the Southwest. Working in the medium of collagraphy and woodcuts, prints by Ross and Romano marry texture and color in a beautiful and skillfully layered way.

Ross and Romano’s book ''The Complete Printmaker'', first published in 1972, has been called the definitive textbook on printmaking, and is still in use today at universities and art schools. The prints selected for this show will heavily showcase the duo’s talent and expertise at collagraphy- a true printing hybrid that involves collage applied to a plate, printed by intaglio or relief methods.

A free nighttime reception was held on Friday, April 19th, from 5-8pm at the Old Print Gallery to celebrate the opening of the show. Both artists were in attendance. Many of our OPG friends and followers came out to help us acknowledge the artistic talent and successful careers of these two acclaimed printmakers.

Upcoming Shows and Events

PER∙FORM

July 19- September 14, 2013
Opening Reception: Friday, July 19, 2013

Our upcoming summer show, PER∙FORM, opens on Friday, July 19, 2013, with a nighttime reception at the gallery from 5-8pm. The show will be on view until September 14, 2013. PER∙FORM celebrates depictions of dancers, musicians, circus performers, and stars of the stage, and pulls from our inventory of both early 20th century and contemporary prints. Ranging from abstract to figural, these compositions are ambitious and inventive in their attempt to capture sound, forms in movement, and the indefinable energy- both physical and emotional- that fuels and motivates performers. More information, including the artists and prints selected, will be announced soon!

Presented by Susan Goldman and the George Mason University Printmakers Guild

Sunday, March 6, 2011, from 1-3pm

The Old Print Gallery hosted an afternoon of printmaking discussion and demonstrations. Presented by Susan Goldman and artists from the GMU Printmakers Guild, this free event explained printmaking techniques ranging from the traditional to the innovative. Step-by-step instruction of intaglio, linocut, silk screening, and digital printmaking were revealed. A brief Q&A session followed, and the day ended with viewers going home with a signed silkscreen by artist Erwin Thamm. Check out our OPG blog for information about the artists who presented and to see pictures of their work and the event!
